Key Rules and Responsibilities for Competitors:
- Definition of Public Roads:
- Any place where a vehicle can travel in Lesotho is considered a public road, even during the event.
- Road Usage and Safety:
- Competitors must always exercise caution on all roads, especially through villages.
- Even if roads are closed and marked for the event, encounters with traffic, animals, or pedestrians can still happen.
- Driving Rules:
- Keep left at all times on road sections (as per Lesotho traffic laws).
- Always treat roads as open to the public, no matter the event arrangements.
- Service Crew Conduct:
- Competitors are also responsible for the behaviour of their support/service crews.
- Crews must follow Lesotho’s road rules, particularly speed limits:
- 50 km/h in rural areas.
- 80 km/h on national roads.
Competitors must drive or ride responsibly, respect local laws and communities, and ensure their teams do the same—treating all routes as public and potentially active with everyday traffic and people. Safety and courtesy are essential.

VERY IMPORTANT – Respect for Local Communities and Environment
Competitors are strongly urged to act respectfully at all times during the event. Many of the villages along the route are home to people living modest, traditional lifestyles, relying on their land, livestock, and few possessions.
Please take note of the following:
- Avoid Farmland:
If you encounter ploughed or planted fields, do your best to steer clear and avoid causing any damage. - Respect Livestock:
If you come across cattle, horses, goats, or other animals, approach slowly and give them space. Treat all livestock with care and respect. - Be Respectful in All Interactions:
Whether interacting with locals, marshals, or other teams, show kindness and consideration. You are a guest in these communities.
